Fire Extinguisher Inspection & Testing in Northern California

Your building’s fire extinguishers are often the first line of defense against what could be a devastating fire emergency. But while many people may draw comfort from seeing their bright red box nearby, a broken fire extinguisher will only waste precious time when you’re trying to protect your people and your facility. Our fully trained, California state-licensed, NICET-certified, and factory-certified technicians will keep your first line of fire defense in tiptop shape when you schedule annual fire extinguisher inspections.

Protect your building’s first line of defense against fire emergencies with an annual fire extinguisher inspection. Call 916-663-3582 today to schedule a fire extinguisher inspection in Redding, Chico, North Bay, Greater Sacramento, Central Valley, and the Greater Bay Area.

What To Expect With a Fire Extinguisher Inspection

Your fire extinguishers need to be inspected by your staff monthly and by a licensed professional annually. When you schedule your annual fire extinguisher inspection with the licensed professionals at Foothill Fire Protection, we will check the following:

  • Location: Our team will make sure your fire extinguishers are placed according to federal and state guidelines so that there’s always one close enough for an emergency.
  • Accessibility: We’ll check that no fire extinguisher is hidden or can’t be accessed easily.
  • Functionality: Our professionals will inspect each fire extinguisher to ensure they can still be used properly and check that the labels are legible and intact.

If you’re unsure of when your fire extinguishers were last inspected, it’s likely long overdue. Call 916-663-3582 or contact us online to schedule your next fire extinguisher inspection in Northern California and the Bay Area.

Signs a Fire Extinguisher Should Be Replaced

No matter your industry or type of business, fire extinguishers are critical fire safety equipment to have on-site. Necessary to meet most local, state, and federal fire codes, regulations, and standards, fire extinguishers protect you, your property, residents, and staff from the devastating effects of a fire. Common signs fire extinguishers need to be replaced include:

  • Broken handles
  • Loose components
  • Faulty seals and hoses

If you notice any of these signs of a faulty fire extinguisher in your California business, call 916-663-3582 or contact us online immediately for a replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have yet to discharge the fire extinguisher during training or to fight a fire, there is a good chance that the fire extinguisher may have a leak. With time, the seals and valves that hold back the pressure can wear and fail, and the cylinder can crack due to pressure, corrosion, or impacts. If the fire extinguisher is discharged, it should be charged or replaced as soon as possible.

Depending on the type of fire extinguisher, it can last five, six, or 12 years before it must be discharged, inspected internally, hydrostatically tested, and recharged. If the fire extinguisher passes the inspection and testing, it can be put in service for another five, six, or 12 years. Otherwise, it will need to be repaired or replaced.

If the fire extinguisher gauge reads full, lift the cylinder to ensure it feels full. The gauge may be faulty if it’s too light, and the fire extinguisher should be repaired or replaced. Likewise, if the gauge reads empty but the fire extinguisher feels about as heavy as a full one, the gauge may need to be fixed.
